PATIENT PROCEDURE

A type of CLINICAL INTERVENTION.

This is the actual procedure performed on an individual PATIENT at a particular time. A PATIENT may undergo a procedure under the direct personal supervision of a medical or dental practitioner, in pregnancy or childbirth or for the prevention, cure, relief or diagnosis of disease. It should be possible to record at least four procedures for each CONSULTANT EPISODE (HOSPITAL PROVIDER).

In the case of an Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment procedure, it comprises the PATIENT being given an anaesthetic for the purpose of Electro-Convulsive Therapy and being administered one or more electric stimuli to the head and should be recorded regardless of whether or not the PATIENT has a convulsion.
