This is a composite data item required to be recorded within a HES General Episode Record and is a description of the characteristics of a ward which covers resources available to intended users. It is derived from several constituent components each of which although based upon NHS Data Dictionary attribute classifications, are not the same; for example, HOME LEAVE has been added to each classification list.

The derived value has six constituent component parts, AABCDEF. The value is derived as follows:

AA	Clinical Care Intensity, see INTENDED CLINICAL CARE INTENSITY
