HP150 - REGISTRABLE BIRTHS

  1. HP150 shows the classes relevant to REGISTRABLE BIRTHS, both in or outside a hospital. Diagram HP070 shows further information which is relevant to mothers admitted to hospital.

  2. Two distinct sets of data are required; that relating to the mother and that relating to the baby. For hospital births there will be separate occurrences of PATIENT, HOSPITAL PROVIDER SPELL and CONSULTANT EPISODE (HOSPITAL PROVIDER) for the mother and each baby.

  3. During a PREGNANCY EPISODE, a mother may be admitted for one or more HOSPITAL PROVIDER SPELLS. If a GENERAL MEDICAL PRACTITIONER is responsible for antenatal care and is different from the registered GENERAL MEDICAL PRACTITIONER of the PATIENT, the former will relate directly to the PREGNANCY EPISODE.

  4. If the mother is in hospital during LABOUR AND DELIVERY, LABOUR AND DELIVERY will relate to a CONSULTANT EPISODE (HOSPITAL PROVIDER). Any PATIENT PROCEDURE during, preceding or following LABOUR AND DELIVERY will be recorded against the CONSULTANT EPISODE (HOSPITAL PROVIDER) as for other admitted PATIENTS.

  5. During a LABOUR AND DELIVERY the mother may be included within a MIDWIFE EPISODE.

  6. One or more REGISTRABLE BIRTHS will result from a period of LABOUR AND DELIVERY. During the period of LABOUR AND DELIVERY there may be one or more ANAESTHETIC OR ANALGESIC ADMINISTERED.

  7. Each baby born (excluding still births before 24 weeks) is registered as a PATIENT. In hospital, the baby’s HOSPITAL PROVIDER SPELL will start from the date of birth. The baby will then have one or more CONSULTANT EPISODES (HOSPITAL PROVIDER) and PATIENT DIAGNOSES and may have one or more PATIENT PROCEDURES as for any other PATIENT using a hospital bed. For each baby, a PATIENT DIAGNOSIS for the highest neonatal level of care in a period determined locally, but not exceeding one day, will be recorded.

  8. A number of MATERNITY DOMICILIARY VISITS may be made as part of a PREGNANCY EPISODE provided as part of the DOMICILIARY SERVICE.
