A PATIENT temporarily accommodated in an ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT or elsewhere for whom a DECISION TO ADMIT has been made; but who remains waiting in the nursing care of the ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT for longer than is appropriate for his/her condition before moving to a ward. This occurs in cases where:
| a. | Pre-arrangements have been made for movement to a ward, or |
| b. | A decision to admit has been made as a result of an ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY ATTENDANCE . Any facility set up to treat emergency and/or walk in cases is regarded as an ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT for this purpose. |
