The continuous care for a PATIENT may be shared between several hospitals or hospital units. If these are part of the same HEALTH CARE PROVIDER, there will only be one HOSPITAL PROVIDER SPELL; if a PATIENT transfers from one HEALTH CARE PROVIDER to another, the transfer will initiate a new HOSPITAL PROVIDER SPELL. Note that a PATIENT cannot have concurrent HOSPITAL PROVIDER SPELLS.
