The primary purpose of national datasets is to enable the same health information to be generated across the country independent of the organisation or system that captures it.

In achieving this the NHS Information Authority will be enabling healthcare professionals to measure & compare the delivery and quality of care provided and to support them in sharing information with other health professionals.
