HARD PRESSED INDICATOR

An indicator as to whether a MEDICAL AND DENTAL POST for doctors in training with on call hours is regarded by the responsible CONSULTANT as hard-pressed. Hard-pressed posts are those in which the emergency workload outside normal working hours is high.

In certain situations higher specialist doctors in training may continue to contract for duties in excess of a 72 hour maximum average per week (though not for more than a maximum average of 83 hours per week) when it would be to the benefit of their training and they wish to do so, providing proper support staffing exists and providing the duties are not harmful to the trainees or to PATIENTS. This is known as the 'English Clause'.

Classification:

a. Not hard pressed
b. Hard pressed without English Clause
