The grouping which classifies the complexity of a TELETHERAPY TREATMENT COURSE.
Classification:
a. | Superficial/Orthovoltage; Beam energy of less than 500kv. Manual calculation. Typical superficial treatments include any use of pre-prepared lead cut-outs, lead rubber, eye shields, etc. Excludes individually crafted items for specific patients as these should be covered by the Technical Support complexity group. |
b. | Simple; Megavoltage, including electrons. Manual calculation. No simulation. Multiple single fields to different sites should be coded individually. Includes use of pre-prepared lead cut-outs, lead rubber, eye shields, etc. Excludes individually crafted items for specific patients as these should be covered by the Technical Support complexity group. |
c. | Simple with Simulation; Megavoltage. Simulation prior to treatment. Manual calculation. Includes simple parallel pairs calculated manually and the use of thermoplastic immobilsation devices. |
d. | Complex; Megavoltage. Computer calculation with or without simulation. Includes treatments which are simulated that might involve planning and production of an individual isodose chart. |
e. | Complex with imaging; Megavoltage. Two or three dimensional planning with dedicated CT or MRI imaging. Includes conformal radiotherapy using multi-columnators. Excludes imaging done separately as part of the staging process. |
f. | Technical Support; Any treatment irrespective of complexity or beam energy which requires individually crafted items for specific patients such as casts, shells or other individually produced positioning devices or individually crafted beam shapers or modifiers. Includes techniques such as whole or hemibody irradiation that produce major disruption to routine practice with special positioning or dose measuring problems. Also includes teletherapy treatments which require anaesthetic and conformal radiotherapy using shells and stereotactic radiotherapy. Excludes use of thermoplastic materials. |
