Definition:
The date (with an associated CDS APPLICABLE TIME) of the update event (or the nearest equivalent) that resulted in the need to exchange this CDS.

Usage:
This CDS data item is mandatory when used with the CDS Net Change Update Mechanism.
It is not required when the CDS Bulk Replacement Update Mechanism is used.

The CDS APPLICABLE DATE (and TIME if supplied) is stored in the database and in the event of multiple submissions of the same uniquely identified CDS (even in separate interchanges), the database update process is then able to use the date and time to ensure correct updating of the CDS data in the correct relative date/time sequence.

CDS-XML Interchanges:
Used in the NHS standard format which is the e-GIF compliant format of CCYY-MM-DD.

NHSCDS EDIFACT Interchanges:
Used as a combined DATE/TIME element in the format CCYYMMDDHHMM.
EDI gateway management and translation solution sets usually generate the required EDIFACT Service Segments (UNB, UNH, UNT, UNZ).

CDS INTERFACE GATEWAY SERVICE Interchanges:
The date and time must be supplied in the CDS IGS Header Record.
