Reason for Change: Anti-cancer surgery includes enabling or palliative interventions. These changes have been introduced to clarify Cancer Waiting Times monitoring.

Background:

DSCN 22/2002 National Cancer Waiting Times Monitoring introduced the central electronic collection of patient level information. The Cancer Action Team has recently issued the Cancer Waiting Targets - A guide (Version 3) which clarifies that First Definitive Treatment includes palliative or enabling surgery eg colostomy or stent, as these interventions form part of the planned treatment package.

This DSCN updates the data standards to clarify the scope of anti-cancer surgery.
