Version No: | 1.7 |
Subject: | Discontinuation of Central Returns KC55-KC59 |
Type of Change: | Change to NHS Data Dictionary |
Effective Date: | Immediate |
Reason for Change: | The Central Returns KC55, KC56, KC57, KC58, and KC59 were discontinued by DSCN 18/2004. |
Background:
The following Community Central Returns were discontinued by the Department of Health in DSCN 18/2004, with effect from the 1st April 2004.
KC55 Professional Advice and Support Programmes - Other than Maternity
KC56 Patient Care in the Community - District Nursing
KC57 Patient Care in the Community - Community Psychiatric Nursing
KC58 Patient Care in the Community - Community Learning Disability Nursing
KC59 Patient Care in the Community - Specialist Care Nursing
The reason for their discontinuation was given as a reduction in bureaucracy. The existing statistics being process-based, were no longer suitable for management of the services provided, as was the case when introduced 20 years ago. The advent of electronic patient records will provide the opportunity to create more meaningful and less burdensome data collections, focussing on outcomes rather than processes; it is intended to investigate and develop such measures with input from the professional groups involved.
The associated Community Central Return forms, guidance and diagrams have been deleted from the NHS Data Dictionary.

LOCATION TYPE CODES
-
The codes enable the classification of LOCATION TYPE. This is the type of physical location where patients are seen or where services are provided or from which requests for services are sent.
-
Each LOCATION must be classified by one, and only one, LOCATION TYPE, i.e. once a building (or department or unit within that building) has been allocated a specific LOCATION TYPE, that LOCATION TYPE should be used by all users regardless of the type of activity, specialty or client group involved. The LOCATION TYPE should only be altered if there is a complete change in use.
-
Note that the term Professional Staff Group refers to health professional staff and covers Chiropody, Clinical Psychology, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy.
-
Tables 1 to 3 gives the groupings used on the following Central Returns:
