MH010 - MENTAL HEALTH CARE SPELLS: ORGANISATION, RESPONSIBILITY AND TREATMENT

  1. A CARE SPELL brings together all activity provided to a PATIENT for a particular illness or condition. There will be one or more RESPONSIBLE HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS taking overall responsibility for the PATIENT's care or treatment during a CARE SPELL. The RESPONSIBLE HEALTH CARE PROVIDER may be different from the ORGANISATION or ORGANISATIONS actually providing the care or treatment.

  2. The care or assessment within a MENTAL HEALTH CARE SPELL is provided by a MENTAL HEALTH CARE TEAM, which may be multidisciplinary and involve both NHS and non-NHS agencies, for example Social Services of a Local Authority. A MENTAL HEALTH CARE TEAM is part of a FUNCTIONAL GROUP within an ORGANISATION.

  3. The MENTAL HEALTH CARE SPELL forms part of a HEALTH CARE PROVIDER's SERVICE.

  4. Within a MENTAL HEALTH CARE SPELL, if a PATIENT is transferred temporarily to another HEALTH CARE PROVIDER, with the main responsibility for provision of mental health care also being transferred, a MENTAL HEALTH CARE SPELL SUSPENSION is initiated.
